What is Recovery Asset Team?

The Recovery Asset Team is the FBI IC3 unit that coordinates with receiving financial institutions to freeze funds from fraudulent domestic wire transfers reported quickly enough to intervene.

The team operates the Financial Fraud Kill Chain, a process that engages the receiving bank to place a hold before funds are withdrawn or layered onward. It applies to domestic transfers meeting reporting criteria and depends heavily on how fast the victim reports.

Reporting runs through the IC3 complaint portal in parallel with a call to the originating bank. Delay is the dominant variable in whether funds are still present.

Immediately. Recovery depends on reaching the receiving bank before funds are withdrawn, so the useful window is hours rather than days.

The transaction details, the originating and receiving bank information, the account numbers involved, the amount, and the date, filed through the IC3 portal alongside a call to your own bank.
